I was a Research Assistant involved in equipment procurement and laboratory setup. My research involved enzymes used by marine bacteria in sulfur metabolism. Provided technical guidance to post-doctoral scientists, graduate and undergraduate students.

I researched mammalian phase I metabolic enzymes (Cyt P450) cloned into yeast for their capability as tools in elucidating drug metabolite structure and biologic activity. Research included molecular cloning; determining the kinetic mechanisms; method development and metabolite characterization.

Worked in, managed a small group of scientists and monitored budgets involved in all aspects of biological and analytical chemistry. I developed in vitro and clinical sample assays and documentation within the Preclinical Research Department for IND applications to FDA. Research included assay development of enzyme expression in specific tissues; and substrate/product quantification. Development pharmacokinetic assay to quantify drug amounts in blood and brain tissues.

Worked with and helped train a small group of scientists and generated documents involved in all aspects of cellular and enzyme assay development, high through-put screening, molecular modeling and characterization of small molecule protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors for use in cancer therapeutics. I acted as liaison between biology, chemistry and ADME/toxicology. I contributed to business development by researching patent space and writing sections for patent applications and IND applications.

I was directly involved in all aspects of company start-up including: competitive landscape analyses; patent writing and research; and budgeting, purchasing and setting up laboratory space. I worked in, managed a small multi-disciplinary laboratory and budgeted for a small therapeutic company specializing in high through-put screening, identifying, characterizing, computer modeling and developing of small molecule drugs for cancer applications.

Faculty member in the Department of Neuro-Oncology working in a multi-disciplinary group developing specific small molecule inhibitors of the Src family of protein tyrosine kinases. Research led to a better understanding of their role in cancer biology. Responsibilities included training graduate and undergraduate scientists in laboratory technique and experimental design.

I was a Faculty member of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences instructing pharmacy students in biochemistry, biotechnology and drug discovery and development. Instruction included lecture and syllabus developemt and examination writing and grading for approximately 110 students. Researched the catalytic and kinetic mechanisms of the three heparin lyases from Flavobacterium heparinum used in the development of a generic version of the anticoagulant Lovenox.

I was a Research fellow, in the Department of Biological Chemistry, working in a multi-disciplinary group studying the enzymology, catalysis, three dimensional structure and biologic regulation of protein tyrosine phosphatases. I also lectured sections of biochemistry to medical students.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, worked on the catalytic and kinetic mechanism; regulation and structure of tyrosine hydroxylase.
