The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is a member-supported unit of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York which studies birds and other wildlife. For that, they keep track of many different information sources using the multimedia data that has been gathered, and they needed to count the number of birds present in each data (i.e 40/per image in a session of 1000 images) in a short period of time. SISTEMIC research group focuses on develop embedded systems, high performance computing, and artificial intelligence algorithms for a variety of applications. Some of the most recognized open-source projects are Naira (an automatic methodology of identification and images mammals classification with camera traps), AUREAS (anurans bioacoustic analysis), and Tringa (a tool to estimate the density of shorebirds and congregators in images and videos). In this period of time we were responsible for: • Develop metrics that would help to estimate the performance of Naira considering a temporal analysis. • Develop an image processing algorithm for fast segmentation and wildlife recognition. • State of the art research of low computational algorithms for machine learning efficient integration.
