Working with children including congenital, early years development and MSK outpatients.

This role requires me to work with Powerlifters and other Strength athletes to regain function and strength for national and international level competitions.It requires me to hone my skills as an MSK Physiotherapist.This role has taught me valuable skills in business management, development, marketing, and strength specific MSK Physiotherapy.

Private MSK Specialist. Working with a range of ages.

This was the most challenging, but the most exciting placement. I spent 7 weeks on respiratory and cardiology wards as an inpatient physiotherapy student at Stepping Hill Hospital. My knowledge from Sport and Exercise Science BSc came in handy here, were there was a lot of physiology knowledge required. This setting was more clinical, and very much more volatile. Patients changed from day to day and there were a lot of precautions when it came to mobilising patients. Discharge planning was a big part of this placement, it enabled me to efficiently treat a patient and discharge with appropriate support.I also had the opportunity to complete respiratory assessments and take part in many respiratory based treatment modalities such as ACBT, suctioning, and on-call respiratory training. I learned a lot about the body systems, along with screening process used by the doctors, such as ABGs, blood test, ECG's, X-rays, and more.This placement pushed me to my limits, as a result, I developed good relationships with patients, clinicians and other members of the hospital. The team were really helpful, they supported me where I needed it, and also allowed me to be autonomous as a practitioner, to make my own decisions based on patient presentation.

This placement elaborated on my previous MSK placement. I worked with a team in Wigan, Wrightington, and Leigh. This placement was based on falls prevention in the community. It entailed visiting patients houses, with both supervising physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and therapy assistants. This placement taught me how to work in unfamiliar environments. It put pressure on me as a student as all of my interactions were supervised by a clinician. This forced me to work outside my comfort zone and develop specialist skills as a result. I worked with a wide variety of patients, most of which were complex cases with a plethora of co-morbidities. Community work is very different, I found the time with the patients was nice, however I do also love the fast paced hospital setting. I am currently in the workings of creating my own freelance community based work and hope to have this established along side full time work in the NHS.

In this role I was a student supervised by an MDT at Wythenshawe foundation trust. I worked with the team at MSK Outpatients dealing with a range of MSK/Neruo patients.This placement taught me valuable skills in MSK assessment and treatment for a range of orthopaedic and injury patients. This placement honed my skills in MSK, but also in working in an NHS setting. It was not confined to solely MSK patients. Although try caseload was predominantly MSK related, there were a few Near patients that passed through, and some complex combinations of the two.
