After moving from a small town in Central New York to Washington, D.C. I worked in restaurants holding positions like event server, waiter, and bartender. DC afforded me chances to expand my hospitality skills by catering to the needs of a regular customer base, and strengthen my multitasking and time management abilities while waiting at the Hamilton, the largest restaurant in D.C. Other unique opportunities, such as driving for a presidential campaign motorcade as a favor to a friend, designing a five-day tournament for my annual family reunion, and studying improvisational comedy at Washington Improv Theater, expanded my network and developed my event planning and leadership traits. These communication, organizational, and leadership skills became transferable assets when I joined Emerson College’s Communication Studies major in Spring 2021. In addition to the Communications Studies major, my Public Diplomacy minor allows me to explore my interests in International Relations and Affairs. I am the Co-President of Emerson’s oldest student organization, the Communications, Politics, and Law Association and in that role, I've organized DC trips for students that included meeting with a foreign service officer, attending international communication conferences, and exploring the nation's capital. Solo-traveling in my mid-twenties sparked my interest in the global community, and a recent course in Athens, Greece sparked a passion for developing a new project based in international community development designed to support LGBTQIA+ people. By the end of the year, I hope to find a position in the field of international affairs to gain better insight about how policy, relationship-building, and cultural exchange can better serve local communities in an ever-globablizing country.
