The Defence Crisis Management Organisation delivers policy-informed military advice to the Ministry of Defence, shaping strategic and political decisions.As a specialist working in the logistics division, I’m responsible for reviewing, developing, and executing complex crisis management plans, with operating budgets often in excess £10M. This role involves the meticulous management of simultaneous multinational projects, each contributing to a broader portfolio of logistics, construction, infrastructure, telecommunications and engineering works aimed at delivering strategic and operational defence outcomes.

Defence Estate Optimisation is the single biggest estates change programme within Defence, bringing together an ambitious portfolio of interdependent programmes, construction activity, unit and personnel rebasing, and land release. The portfolio had a budget of £5.1bn to provide a better-structured, modern and more sustainable estate. As a Programme Delivery Manager within a national PMO, my role encompassed the integrated planning, governance, coordination, and successful delivery of a geographically diverse portfolio of rebasing projects across 7 regions of the UK. The programme was uniquely complex as it oversaw 6 project managers and delivered more than 15 simultaneous projects annually, each with high levels of risk and conflicting independent stakeholder objectives.

The Ministry of Defence assumes a multifaceted role extending well beyond conventional military operations. Within this expansive purview, the efficient coordination of the MoD's internal resources and the procurement of commercial services, becomes an imperative strategy for securing a competitive advantage. As a Project Delivery Manager within the Logistics Division, I managed medium-sized projects, with budgets in excess of £1M. Geographically diverse, with a global footprint, successful projects were carried out in multiple countries across the EMEA regions. My responsibilities involved developing and overseeing project objectives tailored to the unique requirements of each region.My focus was on ensuring successful project execution and delivery. This position required a blend of strategic planning, effective team leadership, and meticulous attention to detail.Key responsibilities included leading project teams, implementing project management processes, managing project budgets, and optimising project workflows for efficiency. I was accountable for driving projects from initiation to completion, meeting all objectives and timelines.
