An experienced scientist and laboratory manager who has worked in academic laboratories for over 30 years. Wide-ranging experience in materials science, more recently with applications using graphene and graphene oxide in energy storage devices (lithium ion batteries and ultracapacitors) and energetic materials (propellants and fuels). Developed and patented techniques for synthesizing graphene-Se/S composites for lithium ion battery electrodes, the low temperature synthesis of high temperature aluminosilicates (mullite), and diverse materials including wood-ceramic composites, piezoelectric ceramics, and high temperature superconductors. Foundational research on the micropatterning of ceramics using sol-gels and the synthesis of microporous ceramics through the self-assembly of surfactants and templating by ceramic precursors. Laboratory manager for the research laboratories of Prof. Ilhan A. Aksay at the University of Washington and Princeton University, with annual research expenditures of $850,000 to $1,500,000 per year. Now semi-retired, enjoying our LTV Wonder FTB motorhome whilst traveling across the country to our new home in Shelton, WA!
