While my internship with Wright-Pierce was brief, it was during a busy time for the company. This allowed me to do a large amount of real project work with multiple different engineering disciplines. My chief work was in the Electrical group. I reviewed and corrected material-order forms, did wire-sizing and breaker-sizing calculations, spent extensive time proofreading electrical diagrams, and searched for standard building and material procedures for situations brought before me.During the second half of my internship, I worked extensively with the programming/SCADA branch of the company. Under excellent mentorship, I was able to understand the programming structures most commonly used in the wastewater industry. My work progressed from proofreading logic & wire diagrams to basic code-writing. I also accompanied a SCADA site visit during a routine software installation and a not-so-routine sensor response at a water purification facility. I also worked briefly with the Civil Engineering Branch, where I cataloged changes that were to be made and sorted them by area. This involved going through schematics of the facility ranging as far back as 20 years ago.Finally, I was put in charge of a project that consisted of transferring the entire company's Electrical department files from their hard drive to Microsoft Office. The majority of my work consisted of organizing files, creating folders, and deleting unnecessary files once they had been cleared. While not a mentally challenging job, I take pride in my execution of this transfer due to the large scale of files I had to sift through every day. I learned a lot at Wright-Pierce and am thankful that they allowed me to work as part of their professional team and under their excellent mentorship.
