I attended Kent State University for three years after graduating from high school, not really sure of what career path to choose. After changing my major twice at Kent State University, I went back to my childhood dream of being a teacher. In the fall of 2004, I transferred to Cleveland State University to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. I graduated from Cleveland State University in December 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree and will graduate in May 2011 with a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Design specializing in Educational Technology. I continued my education at the University of Heidelberg in Reading and obtained the Ohio K-12 Reading Endorsement in May of 2016. I am currently becoming Wilson Reading System Level 1 certified. I believe that teaching is the process of facilitating ideas through hands-on activities for students that they will use in everyday life. I believe that each student has their own way to learn, which makes it essential to teach a variety of ways. I believe the classroom should be an environment for students to learn in, free from any kind of anxiety. I believe that a teacher is someone who assists students’ learning of ideas, is a lifelong learner, and a mentor to his/her students. I believe that all teachers are lifelong learners because a teacher is like a doctor, they are practicing what they do best, educating students. Every student is unique and has his/her own contributions to the class. Having a diverse student population promotes other students learning about different cultures, beliefs, and religions. Using an assortment of approaches may aid in students learning, but students need to have a worry-free environment. My classroom will be an encouraging environment for students to grow socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
