About Daniel Martins
My main interests are psychoactive drugs and people who uses drugs. I've been working in Harm Reduction in the last 15 years. I've co-created and I'm on the board of Kosmicare, a NGO that advocates for sensible drug policies and provides harm reduction community services. I'm the coordinator of Kosmicare's Drug Checking service. In the last decade actively participated in projects for the development of drug monitoring tools. I've a MSc in chemistry and currently I'm in the last year of PhD working on the chemistry, toxicology and analysis of New Psychoactive Drugs.Specific areas:Harm Reduction and Drug Checking – Development of harm reduction services and drug monitoring tools.Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry – Synthesis, purification and structural characterization of small psychoactive molecules, with special focus on piperazine, phenethylamine and amphetamine derivatives. Analytical chemistry - Detection and identification of psychoactive substances (HPLC, GC, TLC, UV-Vis, NMR, FTIR, Voltammetry).Psychedelics and ATS - Study of the impact of non-medical use of psychedelics and stimulants on mental health.
