The company took me on as an intern over summer 2015 in order to implement recommendations set out by a waste management review from an environmental consultancy firm. This included writing and implementing procedure that would assure legal compliance with the vast array of environmental legislation in the UK. A number of new relationships were built as a result of the placement including a recycling network established with a local social enterprise and the introduction of a fleet recognition and telematics system, both of which seek to improve resource efficiency within the organisation. After the placement the company decided to keep me on in a consultancy basis to assist in the implementation of an Integrated management system.

I was involved in the upkeep of a community garden for a local charity - planting and growing vegetables for sale to the public. Although my official title was horticultural assistant a large remit of this position was the support of adults with additional support needs, guiding them through a therapeutic learning experience which I'd like to think benefited them alongside affirming my passion for people, the environment and how both these factors can interact and assist each other.
