Profile bio

About Daniel Matz

I am a Policy and Data Analyst in the Maine’s Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF). My role is to provide support to the GOPIF team on matters relating to data analysis, policy communications, and infrastructure development. In this position, I create and maintain a series of publicly-visible dashboards to communicate the impacts that the Mills Administration has had on several policy areas. I also liaise between the Governor's Office and various state agencies, as well as with external stakeholders throughout the state.Prior to this role, I began my time at GOPIF on the Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan team, working to approve, implement, and evaluate roughly $1 billion in federal American Rescue Plan Act money, as allocated by the state legislature through Governor Mills' Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan. Within the Jobs Plan team, I support our data analysis and management; provide communications support including website maintenance and drafting a monthly stakeholder update bulletin; and liaise with various Executive Branch departments to ensure speedy and efficient utilization of these funds. I received my undergraduate degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. I am also a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, where I obtained a Master of Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. My academic focus was on studying American agricultural and food systems, with the goal of fostering climate resiliency; pursuing equity for traditionally underrepresented communities; and strengthening labor regulations to ensure safer, more fair-minded working conditions for food systems workers.
