General Assistant

During my time at Tesco I worked on the non-food and grocery departments, primarily as part of the daytime operation, but also including a brief spell on the night shift. Most of my time on these departments was replenishing stock, and assisting customers. I would also support other departments including checkouts, security, trolleys, and the warehouse team. It was important for me to be able to work effectively at busy times such as weekends, bank holidays and Christmas, but also to remain motivated and tackle many of the small, housekeeping tasks such as tidying, label checks and sorting waste during quieter periods.I was recognised by my colleagues and managers alike as someone who did his best for the team, both my departmental team, and the store as a whole. Furthermore, my willingness to work with all departments has allowed me to understand how each department is interlinked and how different departments could support each other for the good of the store as a whole. I was also recognised as being an asset to the store in terms of customer service, and have received internal awards for this. This was thanks to the help I gave customers, including at the checkouts, guiding customers around the store, fetching stock from the warehouse, and using my friendly personality to help make their shopping trip as pleasant as possible.I also worked on the electrical desk which required me to assist customers face-to face or over the phone and provide help and product knowledge. On occasion I would also be required to communicate with other stores, or with manufacturer helplines. In performance reviews it was stated by my manager that I was a key member of the team with excellent time keeping and attendance. I was named the store’s service superstar for February 2013, and was nominated by my store for both the Colleague of the Year and Service of the Year awards in the 2013 Tesco Values Awards.
