During my time in GAM I was given the opportunity to gain vital fund accounting experience working within a busy office environment. As a member of one of the NAV teams my main responsibility was to calculate Net Asset Values on numerous funds on a daily basis. To do this I was required to use various IT software such as Invest One, TLM and TSAR to complete tasks such as cash reconciliation, trade settlements, cash management and any investigations into outstanding issues

Linwood’s operate using a job rotation system meaning each employee has to be trained up in a number of different positions. Some of the tasks I carried out included setting up labelling machines, hand labelling, positioning racks in cool rooms, quality control, feeding the machines with the products, filling out orders and paperwork such as health and safety checks every thirty minutes. I was also required to work large amounts of overtime and night shifts which helped me to improve my time management skills as I had to reshuffle typical daily tasks to suit my continually changing work pattern.

My duties included listing products on EBay and the company website, packaging the products for post making sure not to exceed maximum weight limits and providing high customer service when dealing with emails and phone queries. Although this was a part time position I felt my communication skills and ability to work within a team were vital as I was dealing with customers from across the UK. This job also taught me that building a rapport with customers is vital if you are to find a successful solution to any problems that they may be experiencing.

During my time with McClelland Car Breakers I was responsible with dealing with the money. I had to calculate all the income and outcomes from the till and from their EBay account. I was also responsible for dealing with customers, which I believe improved my communication skills. On occasions I was also responsible for the opening and closing of the yard.
