My main role in this position revolves heavily with our pharmacy's contract in the supply of medication to nursing homes. I am the main representative to our clients' nursing directors teams. I ensure that the daily needs of the patients are being met, while also facilitating with monthly in house meetings to discuss each residents' medication and any changes that have been or could be made. This role requires a lot of responsibility on my part which I relish as it allows me to find the best and safest ways to dispense based on the care home's needs, while also building and developing relationships with the directors and nursing team to ensure they are satisfied.My work is primarily in the dispensary. I assist the pharmacist on duty to ensure the day to day operations are run efficiently by helping with the dispensing and gathering of prescriptions. I work to keep stock levels in adequate supply and recorded accordingly, while keeping regular communication with our suppliers to deliver a prompt and reliable service to all our customers. I also have a responsibility with regards to the monthly claiming from the PCRS for the dispensary. I am heavily involved in the verification stage of preparing the claim. By ensuring accurate electronic submissions and hard copy paperwork are intact I endeavour to sustain the necessary reimbursement for the pharmacy.I also work on the OTC counter to assist customers with purchasing the appropriate products for their health concerns. This involves consulting patients in a caring and helpful manner on all relevant factors pertaining to their concern and offering sound and informed advise.

Customer Service is the main element of my position; the customer should always be given the best experience I can provide which involves having an appropriate and welcoming manner, offering help and assistance, having good product knowledge to assist in their needs, and going that one step further to ensure great customer satisfaction.Ordering is another aspect of my role which requires a lot of attention. I must ensure there are adequate stock levels in store at all times by utilising all order systems available to me, maintaining a good relationship with suppliers, and sourcing new product lines to offer customers the most relevant and up-to-date brands on the market.Merchandising in store is extremely important. I find taking a step back and looking at the store from a customer's perspective allows me to understand what looks good and what needs an upgrade. Highlighting special offers, promoting new products and giving the store a signature look assists in providing the ultimate experience, and is the best way to deliver internal marketing.Training is not only a necessity but an opportunity to learn and develop skills. In retail, an understanding of products is vital to inform customers and sell stock, and in pharmacy in particular I found training to be extremely important to assisting the public in an informed and appropriate manner.

I became involved with the Codemisused project through my work with Cara Pharmacy where I was given the opportunity to go on secondment in 2015 to conduct some research on behalf of the project. While there were many personal benefits from this experience, I developed significantly in professional terms.Research was not an area I had much experience in but I found it to be a fascinating field of work. I became involved with the first hand elements of gathering data; from on site field work, conducting interviews and observing industry patterns, to working as a team to assemble relevant information in a workable format so findings can be extracted and introduced to reports and articles for publication.
