The Melbourne Metro Rail Tunnel, is a planned metropolitan rail infrastructure project in Melbourne, Australia. It includes the construction of a twin rail tunnel travelling from South Kensington railway station (north west of the Melbourne CBD) to South Yarra railway station (in the south east).The project is designed to significantly increase capacity, and to transform the rail network from a commuter-style suburban rail system to a metro-style rapid transport system. The project is currently in planning phase with a budget of $1.5 billion to commence land and property acquisitions, detailed route investigations and early enabling works. Main construction works is expected to commence in 2018, and finish in 2026 at an estimated cost of between $9 and $11 billion.My role with Melbourne Metro is to manage all aspects of the Eastern Portal entrance to the tunnel. My key responsibilities are :- Manage post reference design of the portal- Manage constructability and design program for the works- Manage budget allocation and risk associated with the works- Manage stakeholder engagement- Manage the early works contractor through delivery of enabling works- Guide land acquisition process by delivering site construction requirements- Manage Procurement phase of the Rail Infrastructure Alliance- Manage interface with other contract packages and network critically independent projectsOver the next two years I will be coordinating with the various stakeholders, progressing the procurement phase and issuing RFT to the market, landing on a preferred proponent in Mid 2018.

This is basically all interfaces out with the core tunnel scope, ensuring that the current infrastructure has the capacity to run the increased number of services generated from the new Melbourne Metro tunnel.The role is exciting and challenging as the various scope items considered must capitalise on the extra services. Over the next three years I will be coordinating with the various stakeholders, progressing the detailed reference design, managing the environmental and land acquisition planning and building the tender package for issue to the market in 2018. Funding for this stage of the works is estimated $150M for the wider network.

The Job includes design and building input from multiple engineering disciplines.(Signalling Modular Handrails) throughout the Pilbara: ($1M)Description: Design and installation of new modular handrails at various signalling locations on the Pilbara network. Ensuring a safe environment for our employees and compliance with new rule book changes. Significant cost savings were made to the project by initiating the modular design and therefore negating the requirement for heavy machinery, excavations and concrete foundations.(Signal Location Safety Upgrades) throughout the Pilbara: (Est $2M)Description: Installation of new signal access steps at various locations considered dangerous for our employees to access.(Cape Lambert Level Crossing) at Cape Lambert: (Est $5M+)Description: Widening of 15 level crossings and associated earthworks to facilitate larger track maintenance vehicles and prevent mistaken interaction between rail and road traffic.Grade Separation (Public Level Crossings) : (Est $60M+)Description: Carrying out feasibility studies for the installation of grade separation at three of the rail networks most frequently used public crossings. Grade separation will completely prevent public and rail interaction creating a safer environment for local residents and significantly reducing the company SQRA estimates.
