Scientist with experience working at national laboratories in the area of nuclear physics. About me: for my graduate studies I worked at Argonne National Laboratory on an upgrade for the silicon detector array in the Helical Orbit Spectrometer, or HELIOS. During that time, I was the driving force behind the completion of the array. When the project was complete, I headed up efforts to test and characterize the device through an experiment which I proposed. The HELIOS device was developed in order to answer fundamental questions about the nature of nuclei, especially those nuclei which are too unstable to observe outside of an accelerator. My dissertation expanded on our knowledge of shape coexisting nuclei, a quantum effect in which nuclei change from elongated (prolate) to flattened (oblate) nearby in excitation energy.What's next:After finishing my PhD, I started as a postdoctoral researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and was recently hired as a scientist. I will be improving data analysis and signal processing for microcalorimeters. Other fun info:I also enjoy boat building, jewelry making, and playing Irish tunes.
