Through the School for International Training, I was given a stipend and courses on research methods before being set free to conduct a research project of my own design. I traveled to the island of Taquile in Lake Titicaca, where I lived with an indigenous family. Through participant observation and interviews, I researched perceptions of climate change among the indigenous farming community of Taquile. I was the student adviser for the new international students. I organized activities and excursions, helped individual students with their finances and navigation of campus life. I served as a the human face for the institution.
