Daniel P. Mitchell practices in general civil litigation, including Insurance Coverage Litigation, Insurer Bad Faith and Extra-Contractual Damages, Commercial Law, and Appellate Law. He was a shareholder and head of the insurance defense department of Gray, Robinson, P.A. prior to coming to Barr, Murman & Tonelli in April, 2007. He was also a shareholder with Shackleford, Farrior, Stallings & Evans, P.A., before its merger with Gray, Robinson, and in addition, he served as founder, president, and senior partner of two medium-sized Tampa firms, Mitchell, Alley & Rywant, P.A., and Mitchell and Carter, P.A.Before attending law school, Dan was a captain in the United States Army, serving a tour of duty with the Fifth Special Forces Group in the Republic of Vietnam. He graduated first in his class in 1980 from Stetson University College of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Stetson Law Review. He is a member of Florida Bar (former member of the Admiralty Law, Continuing Legal Education, and Civil Trial Law Certification committees), the American Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (Former Member of Board of Directors and former chair of the Continuing Legal Education and Products Liability committees), the American Board of Trial Advocates, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, and the Maritime Law Association of the United States. Mr. Mitchell is a former member of the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases.
