After obtaining my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, I worked as an engineer in industry at a small biomedical prototyping company in New Orleans. Following Hurricane Katrina, I obtained a position as an instructor and program developer at Texas State Technical College Marshall in the initial stages of a new Biomedical Equipment Technology (BET) program. Though I viewed a career in academics as a serious consideration after my positive experience in the BET program, I had not yet fully embraced this as my goal until my time in the National Science Foundation GK-12 program at Louisiana Tech. In the GK-12 program, we developed and facilitated hands-on, inquiry-based activities in STEM areas for middle and high school students. After GK-12, I have been fortunate to become a member of the Living WITH the Lab (LWTL) project-based, freshman engineering program. As a LWTL instructor, I have had the unique opportunity to not only teach, interact with and mentor students, but also to participate in ongoing curriculum development with other faculty members on a routine basis.I completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in the Neural Signals and Systems Lab of Alan Chiu, PhD. My research used machine learning, pattern recognition, signal processing and statistical analysis for application in seizure prediction.I am currently a Lecturer at Louisiana Tech University supporting the Mechanical Engineering department and Living WITH the Lab program.
