At the heart of every security company is an operations department where client tasks are planned, roles are allocated and decisions are implemented. The role of the operations manager is therefore a vital one, with moral imperative and necessity forming the cornerstone of the operations manager’s decision making process.The operations manager’s job at Origin Security Group Ltd is a demanding one, as each client task has its own set of dynamics. No two tasks are the same. What works for one client will not necessarily work for another. The operations manager needs to be aware of this and must display understanding, sensitivity and expertise when delivering solutions that will meet the client’s security needs.Many of Origin Security Group’s client tasks are time sensitive and, as such, the operations manager must be fully acquainted with the logistics needed to successfully implement and complete these tasks. As a consequence, the ability to communicate effectively across a range of media involving multiple scenarios is an essential asset that all successful operation managers must possess.

The watch leader’s primary responsibility to deal with volatile situations that could render clients’ cargo, and vessel staff in danger. Such situations mainly include vessels under current piracy attack, suspicious sightings which may or may not mean an imminent piracy attack and other life- threatening situations that may arise on the vessels. Other duties include: Review all incoming e-mails and delegate the work To act as, and ensure, a continual primary point of contact for the operations department, and outside of business hours, for the company itself. To liaise with the Business Development team to identify vessels currently operating under the company, in the affected areas. Ensure that all documentation, licences, kit lists and any other information relevant to a specific voyage is sent to external agencies in line with each vessel considered to be under the company’s current transit list, whilst correctly documenting any actions taken in the vessel’s SOP checklist Make certain there is clear and accurate liaison between client vessels, port agents, vessel managers and country managers prior to either embarkation or disembarkation of the AST to ensure fluidity of operations and the intentions of the timings and instructions for embarking are understood by all Plot all pirate activity in collaboration with the Intelligence Department in order to act as point of reference of current operations in tracking any piracy incidents that may affect a client vessel’s route.Maintain the ATM with the latest ETA timings and data so as to ensure accurate dissemination of information to all relevant and concerned parties to ensure continued function of company operations.Identify potential issues which may require a timely solution and inform the correct point of contact whilst taking any required action in order to resolve an issue.
