Growing up, Dan always excelled in mechanical aptitude and always had an entrepenuarial spirit.Fixing small engines, motorcycles, cars, etc. just seemed to come naturally. Dan started in the business world working for his father in 1974 at Essex Conveyors. First employed as a helper, he soon worked his way up to welder mechanic. Dan also learned how to do the control wiring as well as the hydraulic piping for the machines they were building. He did everything form make small parts to fabricate, weld, paint, wire and install the machines and systems they produced.From there , he went on to work at a small sheet metal/HVAC contractor and became the lead fabricator and installer. He quickly learned how to fabricate simple and complex duct work as well as how to design, fabricate, install and service residential and commercial HVAC systemsHis career started to take shape when he went to work for DeJong Iron Works, located in Paterson, NJ. Dan worked at DeJong for appx 3 years during which time he honed his welding and erecting abilities as well as learned the fundamentals of the structural and misc. steel industry.Dan founded Custom Steel Contractors in March of 1986. Originally located in a small 3,500 sq ft shop in Newark, Custom Steel has grown into a 21,000 sq ft shop in South Kearny. They employ 15 - 20 people and use computer controlled equipment to produce high quality, competitively priced structural and misc steel products for contractors, developers, property managers and owners in NJ.
