I support the planning, design, and implementation of water and wastewater treatment projects.

I provide design support on drinking water treatment projects. In this role I have contributed to groundwater and surface water treatment projects, water reuse projects, corrosion control evaluations, pipe loop studies, pilot studies, alternatives analyses, conceptual and engineering design reports.

Environmental engineering researcher with strong cross-disciplines in materials science and chemistry. (See my PhD Defense Zoom presentation in video link)On a day-to-day basis, I design and conduct bench-scale column and batch studies for fluoride removal and aqueous chemistry using hydroxyapatite pellets (env. eng.). I then characterize both raw and fluoridated materials for their initial structure and evolution using various techniques (i.e. electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, N2 sorption). I have also use more advanced techniques such as atom probe tomography and high resolution energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy for atomic-scale spatiochemical mapping of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (mat. sci.). Finally, I have used solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H, 13C, 19F, 31P) to understand chemical aspects of hydroxyapatite, most importantly the chemical fate of sorbed fluoride ions (chemistry).I have independently initiated research collaborations with several researchers/institutions to broaden and deepen the scope of my work, including:Dr. Andre Sutrisno, ssNMR specialist in the School of Chemical Sciences at UIUCDr. Riqiang Fu, ssNMR specialist at National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, FLProfessor Julie M. Consulted with senior-level students on project management and design work in semester-long capstone projects. (See video link for info about 2016 project) Lectured on fluoride origins, exposure, and removal technologies.Trained students in the methods and use of field equipment.Designed and trained students to run experiments of column and batch tests for the removal of hazardous ions.Prepared equipment, protocols, and data booklets for weeklong trips to Kenya (2014-15), Uganda (2015), and Rwanda (2016) where we interacted with communities by conducting interviews, collecting and analyzing water samples, and performing educational demonstrations at local primary and secondary schools.Provided continual critique of student design reports and presentations.

Worked in the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis with Professor Julie Cairney, Dr. Yi-Sheng (Eason) Chen, and Dr. Limei Yang. Trained primarily in the use of Atom Probe Tomography to analyze single hydroxyapatite nanoparticles by encapsulating them in alumina by atomic layer deposition.

Tulsa, OK: - AutoCAD drawing revisions for various Tulsa WWTP renovation projects. Coordinated and compiled the final drawing set and specifications. - Recorded invoices and updated project financial progress and cost estimates.- Contacted WWTP operators to inquire about the performance of their KSB submersible mixers, recorded relevant information to relay to project manager.- Searched archives for shop drawings of venturi tubes that were installed in the Grand River Pump Station in Tulsa.Thorn Creek WWTP, Chicago Heights, IL:Created a set of drawings for the Sodium Hypochlorite Tank Replacement project at the Thorn Creek WWTP. All of the base drawings were already made, since one of the two tanks had already been replaced, so my job was to create new files and change the base drawings to reflect the replacement of the other tank.

Continuation of former research assistantship. Data collection experiments have finished. We wrote a manuscript, published in the Journal of Environmental Science & Technology October 2013.Skills Acquired: data analysis, literature reviewing, technical writing.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering department's Research Experience for Undergraduates trains students to assist in graduate-level research. I assisted my graduate student in his research on the Effect of Soluble Microbial Products on MS2 Removal by Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs). I prepared solutions, plated MS2, enumerated MS2 and E.coli batches, prepared and ran the MBR experiments, and compiled data into useful information.Received BSL-2 Training.

Oversaw a crew of 3-6 high school students for various landscaping and home improvement jobs ranging from $500 - $5000. Types of jobs included retaining wall construction and repair, porch and fence repair, painting and staining, gardening, moving furniture, and shoveling snow.Skills Acquired: project management, residential landscape design.

Camp counselor for children with low-income families or children with mental disabilities. Designed, oversaw, and coordinated daily activities. Taught various biblical lessons through stories and plays. Responsible for ensuring their welfare, health, and safety on a 24-hour basis.

Responsible for all duties regarding the upkeep of the school grounds, such as, weeding, mulching, planting flowers, removing shrubs, trimming shrubs, and watering the grounds.
