Cygnet Texkimp provides specialist knowledge and bespoke machinery for the global technical fibre, fabric, paper, plastic, foil and film processing markets. I was taken on straight after University as a Graduate Electrical Engineer specialising Software Design accompanied by Electrical Design. During my time at Cygnet Texkimp I have worked on various Electrical Design and Software projects including a Full Robotic Carbon Fibre packaging line, Fibre Spreading systems, Pre-Preg lines, R&D Carbon Oxidisation and Coating machines, Safety systems and Carbon Fibre Handling equipment including Lifter Loaders and Drum Handling equipment. This Includes creating: Functional Design Specifications including component selections and calculations, Electrical Schematics, PLC Software Design including Motion Control, Communications set up, HMI Design, FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) Documentation, Testing, Installation, Site Commissioning, Training and Sign-off procedures. I have taken ownership of several projects including the full design of the ‘Five Bar Spreaders’ which spreads Carbon Fibre via servo driven rollers before entering the Production Process, Software and Testing ownership of the various Lifter Loader handling equipment which loads and unloads 150-400Kg reels semi-automatically onto spindles and a full OxCarb R&D Machine which includes PLC Software design, Modbus Temperature Control communications, PID control, Drive control, HMI Design and continuous improvement. I have integrated into the team bringing a balance between the Electrical Design and Software department becoming a great all round Design Engineer constantly looking for new challenges to increase my technical knowledge.

After a family member moved jobs and started working at The Hut Group in August 2014, it was brought to my attention that no weekend engineering cover was provided. With the factory running 24 hour shifts and a noticeable drop in product output on weekends; I offered to provide support. This allowed me to gain further engineering experience around my university studies and challenge myself to apply what I have learnt. My main role is maintenance support for the entire facility, which includes the factory, warehousing and office space. As the only member of the engineering team on weekends I have full responsibility for breakdowns, continuous improvement, maintenance and efficiency of the entire production facility ensuring all lines are running correctly and resolving any issues. I have also helped implement a factory expansion; which included drafting CAD designs of the new facilities, moving and setting up new machines, installation and fault finding

A summer placement in industry was set up after my first year of college; as a Trainee Electrical and Electronic Engineer, to gain engineering experience. After my summer placement I was asked to come back on a part-time basis, scheduled around my education. During my time at Aimia Foods:- I have become responsible for break downs, continuous improvement and implementing cost saving innovations. - Most recently I implemented a Build Back Control System; including PLC, pneumatic and sensor control to alter out-feed flow which increased one of the production lines efficiency by 6%; which equates to 460,000 extra jars of product (or £124,000 in revenue) per annum. - Alongside electrical work I also have extensive mechanical and fabrication engineering skills which include manufacturing a fire proof container for valuable, irreplaceable documents. - AutoCAD; produce electrical drawing for new production lines, projects and continuous improvement. Also mechanical parts for external manufacturing.

A successful work experience program (May ‘08) lead to two summer placements in the engineering department at Burtons Foods; my role was mainly educational, so I helped the team on breakdowns, built electrical panels, learnt about manufacturing practices, fault finding, working in an engineering team and basic mechanical skills.
