The use of the Environics database to create trade area reports to analyze financial capability and behavioural attitudes towards sustainability exceeded my exceptions for this project. Dan's knowledge of socio-economic status, environmentally sustainable innovations, and urban planning was an asset to the team. Single Family Homes - Air Source Heat Pumps: A Feasibility Study
My team partnered with CityStudio London to develop a cost/benefit spatial energy analysis study suggested by the City of London through the UWO Community Engaged Learning partnership program. This project examined financial implications, greenhouse gas reductions, and behavioural economics to help the City of London better understand the feasibility and desirability for single family homeowners to incorporate air source heat pumps to offset carbon emissions from natural gas furnaces. Our work… Show more My team partnered with CityStudio London to develop a cost/benefit spatial energy analysis study suggested by the City of London through the UWO Community Engaged Learning partnership program. This project examined financial implications, greenhouse gas reductions, and behavioural economics to help the City of London better understand the feasibility and desirability for single family homeowners to incorporate air source heat pumps to offset carbon emissions from natural gas furnaces. Our work highlights several key neighbourhoods around London where air source heat pump retrofits would be most beneficial based on financial capability and attitudes towards sustainability. We have compiled our findings into a comprehensive report and presentation to show financial, environmental, and behavioural evaluations as well as recommendations on how to make implementation of the framework more feasible. Our work will benefit London City Council, London residents, members of the academic community, and other key stakeholders in sustainability. We hope our work can assist in the success of the Strategic Plan for the City of London 2019-2023 benefiting the Building a Sustainable City initiative. Show less
