Whilst serving asa full time Union President and Chair of the Trustee Board, I was responsible for setting and maintaining the strategic direction of the Union, which is a registered charity, as well as representing the 9,000-strong student membership to both the University management and the greater academic and political communities. Project Manager
A project aimed at developing an open source, informal education model for isolated refugee and migrant communities who would otherwise have no access to state sponsored, or private, education. In 2014, after meeting residents of a camp in Lebanon, extensive research and a successful Kickstarter campaign, I began work to co-design a community run education system. In 2015, after months of working in collaboration with the women in a Syrian refugee community in North Lebanon, I opened a community organised school for refugees of all ages. In its most basic form, the school functions in two parts; the children learn for free, in specialist subjects from adults in the community, and the adults offer classes in vocations skills such as woodworking, painting, plumbing and others at a small price to other community members, and surrounding Lebanese residents, generating extra income for the families. The project successfully ran for over a year, offering classes in Maths and Arabic for children and continued to engage the local Lebanese residents in workshops, classes and group therapy sessions. www.migrantsofcircumstance.com
