Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) creates a forum for the contemporary arts and critical debates. In the midst of profound global and planetary transformation processes, HKW re-explores artistic positions, scientific concepts, and spheres of political activity, asking: How do we grasp the present and its accelerated technological upheavals? What will tomorrow’s diversified societies look like? And what responsibilities will the arts and sciences assume in this process?HKW develops and stages a program that is unique in Europe, blending discourse, exhibitions, concerts and performances, research, education programs and publications. To promote research and education in this theme, we have now set up the CONNECTED WORLD SENIOR FELLOWSHIP, starting in the academic year of 2022/23. We are proud to present Daniel Neugebauer as our first Connected World senior fellow and to invite you to his inaugural lecture on 5 October, entitled "Corpoliteracy: Politics & Aesthetics".Connecting the CampusNeugebauer (*1977) is Head of Communications and Cultural Education at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin. During his fellowship he will work on the motto of Connecting the Campus. With lectures, seminars and exhibitions, Neugebauer will take colleagues on campus along the concept of Corpoliteracy, encouraging a critical rethinking of administrative structures, facilities on campus as well as modes of communication, both internal and external. By doing so, Neugebauer hopes to generate impulses for a higher degree of connectedness, inclusive practice, and organisational development. To that aim he will address an affective level (students´ and employees‘ well-being), a social level (modes of interaction on and with the campus), as well as a structural level (organizational governance to support the other two levels).

Today, once again, the body has become a contested site for ideologies, a pretext for cultural and political anxiety. Amidst the global resurgence of right-wing ideologies, accelerated during the pandemic—which also saw a hijacking of the discourses on body autonomy—as well as the growing polarities between people and between belief systems, Pintilie imagines a space of togetherness beyond borders and binaries. While contributing to the current conversations towards reassessing the normative in gender, sexuality, bodily ability and diversity, Pintilie’s distinctive perspective is conveyed through her particular visual universe and aesthetics, as well as through a sophisticated and seductive rethinking of the role and power of the moving image. Emerging from her personal experiences, background, and research, and nurtured by long-term collaboration with her protagonists, the artist’s idiosyncratic methodology explores the central role of intimacy in the everyday, centering on embodied practices and deep psychological investigations inspired by Family Constellations, attachment theory, psychosomatics, trauma therapy, and bodywork practices. It proposes possibilities to see, to think, and to relate, destabilizing ingrained visual rhetoric and politics of the gaze.

documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH is a non-profit organization supported and funded by the City of Kassel and the State of Hesse, as well as by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. documenta 14 will open in April 2017 in Athens, and in June 2017 in Kassel.In 1955, the Kassel painter and academy professor Arnold Bode endeavored to bring Germany back into dialogue with the rest of the world after the end of World War II, and to connect the international art scene through a “presentation of twentieth century art.”He founded the “Society of Western Art of the 20th Century” in order to present art that had been deemed by the Nazis as degenerate as well as works from classical modernity that had never been seen in Germany in the destroyed Museum Fridericianum.An enormous hunger to compensate for the lack of information about international tendencies in art motivated 130,000 visitors to come to Kassel for the exhibition, which acted as both a survey and a forum for contemporary art.Arnold Bode led the exhibition up until documenta 4 in 1968, in cooperation with such renowned art historians such as Werner Haftmann, Will Grohmann, Werner Schmalenbach, and Max Imdahl. documenta increasingly became a seismograph of developments in contemporary art.Each documenta takes its character from the ideas and concept of its Artistic Director, and is therefore not only a forum for current trends in contemporary art, but a place where innovative and standards-setting exhibition concepts are trialed. In each edition, documenta has played a leading role in taking the international discourse about art in new directions. Over the past decades, documenta has established itself as an institution that goes far beyond a survey of what is currently happening, inviting the attention of the international art world every five years. The discourse and the dynamics of the discussion surrounding each documenta reflects and challenges the expectations of society about art.
