Revenue Tax Audit Supervisor
CurrentPerforms a full range of supervisor duties over a staff of auditors who are responsible for conducting tax audits for the Department. Plans organizes and assigns work to an audit staff engaged in the performance of audits in the sales and use, gaming venue, and corporate tax audit programs. Identifies and brings to auditors attention areas in assignments that warrant particular attention by reviewing information furnished with assignments and researching departmental records. Assists auditors in the conduct of assignments by providing detailed technical instructions and guidance at audit sites and the regional office. Intercedes in material and sensitive audit issues raised by auditors. Interprets tax laws and regulations for subordinates and taxpayers and/or their representatives. Monitors audit assignments in-progress to ensure adequate procedures are being employed by auditors in an efficient and timely manner. Controls work flow from auditors by establishing priorities to meet deadlines established by statute of limitations and/or Bureau policies. Reviews, approves, or settles completed audit reports received from auditors for adherence with the form and substance required by the applicable tax manuals. Maintains a thorough working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, rulings, departmental policies and procedures to provide advice and guidance to auditors and taxpayers. Recommends changes in taxpayers’ recording and/or reporting procedures to more accurately report future tax liabilities. Presides in the development of newly hired employees in accordance with the Bureau’s Trainee Manual. Provides on-the-job instructions to improve upon any auditors’ weakness and/or to cross train auditors into other tax programs. Serves as an instructor for formal training seminars. Conveys and receives verbal and written information in an effective and timely manner with taxpayers, subordinates, peers, and management.
