About Daniel Nice

An all-rounder off the pitch. A passion for sport, communication and processes, combined with knowledge and experience gained through working the best part of 20 seasons in county cricket, has led to my current role of Cricket Operations Manager of Leicestershire County Cricket Club. Studied at De Montfort University to gain both an undergraduate degree in media and psychology and a postgraduate diploma in Journalism. An NCTJ-qualified journalist with vast experience of print and online journalism, managing websites and social media platforms and proofreading. Previously worked strategically and produced content within media, marketing and communications teams for print and digital platforms for over a decade, mainly at Leicestershire County Cricket Club, but also at the Leicester Mercury. My role at the club has always been varied, and a change in career direction emerged through a desire to have increased responsibility, an eagerness to push my boundaries, and a desire to try something new. Organised, committed, self-disciplined and focussed, equally comfortable working alone to deadline or as part of a team, and constantly looking for ways to improve and develop. My experience covers every aspect of the sporting year; pre-season planning and matchday activity. It is a privilege to work in professional sport, which has taken me all over the country as well as unforgettable trips to India and South Africa. The game is ever-changing and fast paced; the introduction of a fourth cricket format means that the 2020 season will have a new look and feel. There is no fear in the unknown, only opportunity. If you stand still, you go backwards.

Communications And Cricket Logistics Manager

Leicester, United Kingdom

Having helped to organise and manage cricket logistics during the 2017 season, including a two-week pre-season tour to South Africa and being part of away trips, I was given a formal extension to my role as Communications Manager. With previous experience in accreditation, fixtures, conducting and overseeing performance analysis, and other parts of cricket operations, the new parts of my role include helping LCCC's cricket department as follows:1. Day to day logistics during the season2. General administration in the close season, i.e. planning for away fixtures, helping to organise Second XI fixtures and home venues, registration forms, cricket ball ordering, etc3. General supportI have also maintained my previous role as Communications Manager, including overseeing the club's website, social media streams, press releases and publications such as the Yearbook. I deal with media requests and look after the media on matchdays at LCCC. I had the valuable experience of being Venue Media Manager (VMM) at Grace Road during the ICC Women's World Cup of 2017 which allowed me to learn about the key workings of an international tournament. I sampled an ICC Champions Trophy match between Australia and New Zealand in the media centre at Edgbaston as part of that process.

Oct 2017 - Dec 2018

Communications Manager

Leicester, United Kingdom

Having worked on a freelance basis for seven seasons at the club, I was offered the permanent position of Communications Manager at Leicestershire County Cricket Club. The role has the three aspects I value the most - it continues to be enjoyable, challenging and highly variable. My role combines putting together strategy for the Marketing & Communications Department alongside the Marketing Manager with the day-to-day maintenance of the club website, all social media channels and e-communications to ensure Members and supporters are updated with the very latest news from the club. I also work closely with the media to ensure they are informed and have an enjoyable experience when they come to Grace Road. I write press releases, produce scorecards, edit the yearbook, keep the club's official statistics up to date and am still a part of the performance analysis department. I work with all sections of the club and have therefore formed a lot of relationships and gained a wide range of experience in a number of different areas.

I also learnt how to use the Cricstat and Feedback Cricket analysis software and am experienced in using both systems.

Apr 2008 - Sep 2014

Notetaker

This role involved me going to lectures and taking notes to help students. The lecture content varied greatly and involved anything from quantum physics to psychology and gender. The job also involved administration work in an office setting.

Feb 2013 - Sep 2014

News Reporter/Freelance Sport Reporter

I started work as a news reporter immediately after completing my postgraduate diploma and that offered me a real insight into the profession. I then decided to look for a route into sport journalism. I provided cover for the sports department for a period of time, including covering press conferences at Leicester City and Leicester Tigers. I then carried on in the freelance role of local rugby correspondent and also covered some local football in that time.
