I am a first-generation Mexican-American college student, that was raised on the west side of Grand Rapids. Throughout the first eighteen years of my life, I studied in Grand Rapids Public Schools. After graduating from Union High in 2016, I decided to attend Grand Rapids Community College. The first few weeks were hard on me, I just felt like I wasn't capable of getting a college degree. I didn't feel like a college student, it was almost like I didn't fit in. However, that didn't stop me from proving myself wrong. It was, and still is the most important two years of my life. I just worked hard. My hand would always be the first one up whenever a question was asked by the professor. And while a good percent of the time I was wrong, that didn't stop me from asking why I was wrong or, asking how I could improve my line of thought or study. I graduated from Grand Rapids Community College in the Fall of 2018 with a 3.2. That was coming off a 2.6 GPA in high school. If there's anything that I'd like for people to know about me, it's that I'm never going to be afraid to ask questions. I recognize that I'm still on the younger side. And if there's someone who is willing to teach me ways to do my job better, I'll always listen. And hopefully, one day I could be the person teaching some other ambitious kid the way to make his life a bit easier. So in short, this is who I am. I'm willing to take everything in, and willing to give it all out. I've kept this same approach while coaching as a sixteen-year-old middle school volunteer, to now a head middle and high school coach. Within five months working at Tropical Smoothie, I was promoted to shift manager. I just want to learn and continue to do whatever I can to not only help my self, but my local community.
