I have been an attorney with the California Department of Justice since 1990 (I was in private practice prior to that). In January 2018, I was appointed as the Senior Assistant Attorney General for the Land Use and Conservation Section in the Public Rights Division. The section represents more than two dozen client agencies including the State Lands Commission, the Coastal Commission, the Department of Housing and Community Development, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and ten conservancies.I earned my undergraduate degree in English literature from Stanford University, and law degree from UCLA. While in law school, I served as editor-in-chief of the Chicano Law Review, and Co-chair of the La Raza Law Student Association. When I'm not practicing law, I am a fiction writer, poet, book critic, playwright, and editor. My 12 books include "Chicano Frankenstein: A Novel" (Forest Avenue Press, 2024); "My Chicano Heart: New and Collected Stories of Love and Other Transgressions" (University of Nevada Press, 2024); "How to Date a Flying Mexican: New and Collected Stories (University of Nevada Press, 2022); and "Crossing the Border: Collected Poems" (Pact Press, 2017).
