Advocating for medical professionals across Michigan has been my primary focus at Zausmer. This includes defending licensing proceedings brought by LARA (Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs); malpractice claims; and subpoenas for records or testimony (in court or a deposition) regarding patients. LARA matters can include an investigation, negotiating a settlement, or contesting claims in an administrative hearing up to and including appeal. Subpoenas arise in child custody and personal injury cases involving patients, their children, and/or their parents. There is a constant tug-of-war in these cases between a party's right in a lawsuit to request information from the other side, and the desire to maintain confidentiality of private medical information by the patient, the parent, and/or the medical provider. I have represented adult and juvenile foster care homes and their employees, home health care providers, and long-term care facilities, in situations involving an injury to a patient or resident. Premises liability (slip and falls) is another area of practice of mine, including site inspections, witness depositions, and working with expert witnesses. At Zausmer, I also experience in representing business owners in disputes with customers, contractors, and government regulators. I have experience in handling trials, appeals, and administrative proceedings with the State of Michigan, as well as participation in mediation proceedings.
