Structural Stress Engineer

Current

Falls Church, Va, Us

Jun 2018 - Present

Sr. Principal Subsea Engineer

Houston, Texas, Us

Perform structural design and analysis in support of subsea related equipment and pipelines. Develop templates to aid in the design and analysis of subsea manifolds and PLETs. Develop analysis techniques to perform analyses to substantiate the structural integrity of pipe being reeled onto reeling vessels.

Jul 2011 - Aug 2013

Stress Analyst

Arlington, Va, Us

Performed structural integrity checks in support of Material Review Board (MRB) efforts on the Boeing 787-8 aircraft mid and aft body sections. Analyses include checks for strength, stability and fatigue of both composite and metal components. The components included fuselage segments, ring frames, shear ties and numerous structural components that did not meet engineering design requirements.

Nov 2009 - Jul 2011

Stress Analyst

Bethesda, Md, Us

Provided stress analyses in support of the design of the Orion crew exploration vehicle capsule. Perform structural integrity checks of the docking hatch and locking mechanisms.

May 2009 - Nov 2009

Stress Analyst

L-3Communications

Perform structural integrity checks and oversight of testing for interior components of the VH_71 Presidential Helicopter replacement. Interior components include sidewalls, cabinets and seats. These components consist mainly of composite materials both honeycomb and solid laminate. Analyses of these components are done in NASTRAN using PCOMP cards to model the composite layup. Testing was performed to determine A and B-basis allowable values for use in analysis. Components tested included hinge assemblies, tie rods, latches, inserts and panel joint configurations. Provide oversight of vendor testing for crashworthiness certification of interior seating.Other tasks included detailed analyses for modifications to various military aircraft (767, C-27J, P-3, AT-6B). These modifications included addition of equipment racks, flare dispensers, antennas and weapon systems. Completed numerous analysis related to MRB activities.

Feb 2007 - May 2009

Stress Analyst

Bethesda, Md, Us

Performed strength, stability and DaDT analyses of various structural components (ribs, longerons, frames, bulkheads, fittings, and hard points) for the Joint Strike Fighter (F-35) in support of part sizing (Built-To design Packages) using a variety of hand calculations, FEA (PATRAN/NASTRAN) and Lockheed proprietary analytical tools. Completed detailed analyses on various parts of the Joint Strike Fighter lower inner wing structure. The analyses were accomplished with the use of an in-house fatigue and fracture software package (IMAT). Typical areas of analysis included; fastener holes, web cutouts, and thickness transitions. The stresses and or loads input in the IMAT package were collected from a detailed NASTRAN FEM of the F-35. Sub-models were created in those areas where the global FEM lacked sufficient fidelity. All parts were designed to meet minimum life requirements with minimum weight.

Dec 2005 - Feb 2007

Principal Engineer

Noble Denton Odlsi

Job responsibilities included performing and documenting formal analyses for the Thule Power jack up rig skid beams and drilling support deck. Analyses were performed utilizing FEA to determine strength, stability and fatigue checks for the rig during drilling, storm and transportation conditions.

Sep 2005 - Dec 2005

Lead Engineer

Houston, Tx, Us

Job responsibilities included MRB stress and fracture mechanics analyses of the non-motor segments of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters using a combination of traditional hand analysis and finite element modeling techniques. Assisted in fracture mechanics testing for NASA’s SRB Forward Skirt aft clevis. Task consisted of overseeing fracture testing of flight hardware for the determination of fracture properties for the material. Performed detailed SRB frustum pinned joint analysis to determine the local load distribution of pin loads following reaming operations during assembly. This task was accomplished with a detailed FEA contact analysis accounting for material nonlinearities (determined from testing) and increased hole diameters due to reaming.

Mar 2004 - Sep 2005

Lead Structural Engineer

Sea Engineering Inc

As the lead structural engineer, directed the efforts of engineers in the design and analysis of the hulls for both the Front Runner truss spar and West Seno B TLP and FPU production platforms. This included interfacing with the client to understand requirements and coordinating design and analysis efforts to ensure project success. Trained junior engineers in structural analysis methods and interpretations of finite element results and the use of in-house fatigue software. Responsible for the final design and verification of results for delivery of the product to the client. Performed various global and local analyses including the detailed documentation of the associated strength, buckling, and fatigue analyses for verification of structural integrity. Performed local and global analyses of the Medusa and Devil’s Tower Truss Spars.

May 2001 - Mar 2004

Aerospace Engineer
