As an attorney and Bertha Justice Fellow at Equal Education Law Centre (EELC), I work to advance the right to quality and equal education for all learners in South Africa. I am involved in litigation, advocacy, and research on various issues affecting the education sector, such as early childhood development, child safeguarding, inclusive education, school infrastructure, funding, governance, and safety.I have a background in child safeguarding and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) in the humanitarian context. I previously worked as the Regional Safeguarding Officer for Southern Africa - and, prior to that position, as the Protection, Gender and Inclusion & Community Engagement and Accountability Assistant - at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). There, I supported and coordinated the efforts of ten National Societies in Southern Africa to ensure the protection and dignity of vulnerable groups and stakeholders.I hold a Master of Laws (with distinction) in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a Bachelor of Laws (with distinction) and a Bachelor of Commerce in Law and Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). I am fluent in English, Arabic, and Afrikaans, and have a good knowledge of isiXhosa, isiZulu, and Sesotho.I am passionate about equity, justice, and wellbeing for women, children, LGBTI+ persons, migrants and refugees, and the many people whose lives hold intersections of those identities, both in the communities I serve and in my own workplace. I am always eager to connect and learn from people in different roles and fields who share these values and goals.
