I inspect lifting equipment in accordance to LOLER across the refinery. This includes gathering the reports at the start of the month and putting a plan in place to make sure no equipment is missed. This requires working to the correct permits and all health and safety measures in place with the LPS System. Also maintenance needs to be carried out on various items of lifting equipment.

Lifting Examiner covering depots and sites in the South East. I examined all lifting equipment that the company had and also MEWPs. I was part of the compliance team which meant I upheld and enforced high levels of health and safety. I also delivered in house training of loose lifting equipment.

I fixed and maintained small plant equipment. This included repairs on site and in the depot. Also we had a contract with Network Rail which meant we looked after their equipment which normally had a small time frame to maintain and repair as and when they needed plant equipment. I was also the health and safety guardian which meant I upheld high levels of health and safety at all times and attended regular meetings in where we can improve as a company and the good work that has already been put in.

The first two years of the course I was working towards an NVQ Level 2 in plant mechanics and maintenance at Myerscough College. After completing that, I moved onto my NVQ Level 3 and passed as a fully qualified Plant Mechanic with an NVQ Level 2 & 3, and a B-Tech Diploma in Plant Maintenance in 2017.
