Daniel Quinter Email and Phone Number
Daniel Quinter is a Nuclear Physics Intern, Brookhaven National Laboratory at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
-
Research InternBrookhaven National Laboratory Aug 2024 - PresentNew York, United States• Designed an experiment to perform measurements of interaction probabilities between protons and heavy-ions in nuclear fragmentation reactions.• Conducted high-precision simulations in C++ with the GEANT4 toolkit to demonstrate feasibility, deduce ideal experimental parameters and identify sources of noise and methods of mitigation.Implemented live gamma ray spectroscopy of prompt decay spectra with high-intensity proton beams, a method novel to nearly all nuclear fragmentation experiments.• Analyzed energy spectra of large data sets in order to determine relative excitations of secondary isotopes and therefore their respective abundances. -
Undergraduate ResearcherBrown University Apr 2023 - May 2024Providence, Rhode Island, United States• Investigated transferring simulations of the Epoch of Reionization in Cartesian space to the curved sky to test and compare realistic power spectrum analyses with high precision.• Developed an algorithm in Python for the efficient mapping between simulated coeval cubes and realizations of the 21 cm signal with HEALPix maps across a frequency range in comoving space accounting for evolution along the line-of-sight and distortions due to angular diameter distances.• Utilized the ergodic, periodic component of multi-frequency angular power spectra to compute the cylindrical power spectrum and quantified the relative error to the expected power spectrum.• Exploited uniform tiling methods to reduce search space by an order of magnitude and improve efficiency of algorithm by over 30 times the original formulation.• Conducted literature reviews and implemented analytic and numerical techniques for the reconstruction of the rectilinear power spectrum from the angular. -
Summer Undergraduate Research FellowNational Institute Of Standards And Technology (Nist) May 2022 - Oct 2022Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States• Approximated entropy of n-bit random sequences generated by quantum circuits to evaluate sources of error in data post-processing by ion-trapped quantum computers.• Implemented the BB84 and B92 protocols for quantum key distribution against the E91 protocol, a maximally entangled protocol which produces higher fidelity results.• Verified the fidelity of qubits set in arbitrary quantum states via random-circuit algorithms.• Developed algorithm for the generation of calibration matrices for error mitigation in terms of a universal, non-standard gate set (GPI gate, GPI2 gate, and Molmer-Sorenson gate). -
