Msc Summer Intern
A 12 week summer placement undertaken as part of the MSc Exploration Geophysics course with Leeds University. The aim of the project was to produce a regional scale velocity model for the Central North Sea to allow rapid depth conversion of time surfaces. The model produced was an 8 layer model based on velocity depth functions and covered an area of around 40,000 km2. Bootstrapping techniques estimated that the model would have a 90 % chance of producing depth errors of less than 5 % at BCU level. This project was awarded best MSc Exploration Geophysics project for 2011/2012.The main software used throughout was Petrel and Microsoft Excel.
Testing And Diagnostic Technician
My main task was to evaluate performance benefits that could be gained from novel acid DMFC fuel cell membranes. I had to draw up a comprehensive but efficient testing schedule to ensure the evaluation could be completed within a tight deadline. Following on from this I was tasked with testing the new technologies to destruction and starting a long term durability investigation. It was important to determine a realistic life cycle for the product to allow for meaningful testing. This was extended into accelerated durability testing to investigate specific issues with degradation. These issues were then solved in a manner that provided maximum performance gain with minimum impact on system design. I was also involved in building and installing new equipment to expand the testing capabilities of the lab.
