Responsible for the financial performance of a £70m turnover division of the UK’s leading commercial vehicle rental company, Northgate Vehicle Hire ltd, including financial reporting, financial controls, forecasting and balance sheet management. Working alongside the operations, commercial and asset management managers as a member of the senior management team for the region.The principle objective of the role is to maximize returns and grow the Return on Capital Employed, whilst being the custodian of the company’s assets; a fleet of 13,000 vehicles. The role involves the monthly financial reporting to strict PLC deadlines and standards. These results then require analysing, interpreting and presenting to the UK Management Team and local management, before using the data strategically to consider and implement structure, people and process improvements. Leading a Finance Department with nine employees, the role allowed experience to be gained from an operational level; working with all departments of the company such as the Hiredesks and Workshops, through to a management level; where strategic decisions had to be made. Key experiences include assisting with the implementation of a new computer system, being an integral part in the restructure of the branch network and helping the company overcome intense competition and the difficult economic conditions at the time. Each of these experiences has helped the company grow from a fleet of less than one thousand when first employed, to over four thousand running out of four branches.

Beginning as part of a team of three, the role rapidly changed with the expanding company, therefore allowing experience to be gained in all areas of an accounts department. This involved Credit Control, reconciling the bank, paying suppliers, controlling the Sales and Purchase Ledgers and assisting with payroll.
