As Technical Manager I am responsible for all compliance related areas of the business. This includes maintaining certifications (FSSC22000, PBV status, Halal, and export eligibilities. I am also responsible for research programs related to process improvements and new product development.

I oversee all quality and compliance related duties in the company to ensure all of our products meet customer and regulatory requirements. I also work with new and existing clients to help them trial new products on our plant and help them meet export requirements for their target international markets.

As a Senior Scientist at Cannasouth I am responsible for the daily operations of the Innovation Hub department. I manage multiple staff and projects including pharmaceutical development, process scale up and preparing experiments and reports for regulatory justifications.

This role involves process scale up of novel medicinal cannabis formulations and proof of concept studies into potential product ideas. The role is positioned in the Innovation Hub that acts as a central hub to support all other departments within the company.

After working as a contractor during the first half of my PhD, Cannasouth employed me as a full time employee during the second half of my thesis. This role included supporting regulatory affairs, managing the laboratory, writing SOP's and supporting other research projects at the company. I was also seconded to the Project Management department as a Project Coordinator to support the building and validation of a pharmaceutical manufacture facility. This job was completed alongside the responsibilities of my PhD which was also completed on time.

During my PhD I was also employed as a contractor by the funding company. This was to help set up the foundations of the company including establishing research laboratories, assisting with grant applications for student funding, writing SOP's to support government license applications and supporting other research projects. This role was highly versatile and gave large exposure to a wide area of business experience.

This work placement was part of the BSc(Technology) program where I was fortunate enough to earn an international work placement. This role included routine analysis of soil and water samples and an individual research project quantifying phytic acid in African grains to help mitigate micronutrient deficiency in African diets.
