Advanced Cloud Engineer

Current

Richmond, Va, Us

Engineer and Technical Lead for the Kubernetes platform within the security enclave at the Federal Reserve, and an advisor on the Enterprise strategy around containerization.Responsible for defining the platform architecture for our Kubernetes ecosystem, as well as implementing and maintaining that architecture. Primary use-case for the cluster includes hosting containerized GitLab runners for all accounts within the secure enclave. This cluster leverages EKS and the Cilium CNI to overcome the IP exhaustion issues found in EKS, Terraform for the infrastructure deployment, and a combination of GitLab pipelines and ArgoCD for our Git Ops process.

Nov 2022 - Present

Senior Software Engineer

Ashburn, Virginia, Us

Senior Engineer primarily focused on cloud and infrastructure automation. Developed automation pipelines for both the training and inference of geospatial machine learning models. These pipelines are architected to have the component steps be modular so that workflows ultimately become simple orchestration layers and updates to each step do not have to be duplicated. Containers created by these workflows run on Kubernetes with configuration available for resource limits as well as GPU/CPU options depending on the model needs.Designed and deployed a multi-cluster Kubernetes platform leveraging Rancher for a highly distributed infrastructure project. The goal of this project was to identify a way to manage globally distributed infrastructure from a "central" point and provide automation and governance to the whole ecosystem. The infrastructure for the initial Management Cluster was defined in Terraform using a Cloud provider to deploy and configure a K3S cluster running Rancher. From there we switch to the Rancher provider in Terraform to provision all downstream clusters regardless of which Cloud or Data Center they need to run on, providing a consistent framework to manage all of the platforms infrastructure. Fleet was then leveraged to provide a GitOps pattern to manage all applications and services running on any Downstream Clusters.Trained both new and junior associates on all things Cloud, Kubernetes and automation

Software Engineer

Mclean, Va, Us

Software Engineer responsible for the development and maintenance of an enterprise Jenkins platform.

Apr 2021 - Jul 2021

Software Engineer

Mclean, Va, Us

Software Engineer responsible for the design and development of automated cloud infrastructure deployment services. Developed a framework to containerize the deployment of off-the-shelf, monolithic, applications and integrated that into a CI/CD pipeline reducing the build and recovery time from 3-4 days to 30 minutes. This framework has been deployed across our organization and was recently adopted by our Enterprise teams. Introduced a repository of Terraform modules used to deploy AWS infrastructure with minimal input required from the supporting Engineers. These modules are able to leverage both Enterprise and community standards while simplifying the process of managing cloud infrastructure deployments so that feature teams can spend less time managing infrastructure and more time developing. Implemented both Ruby and Go testing frameworks (Inspec, Terratest) for both infrastructure and application testing. These frameworks can ensure the right resources are being stood up, validate security rules, verify applications come online, and perform connectivity tests between applications (i.e. application to database).
