I have had a career associated with Defence and the Aerospace Defence Industry having undertaken design engineering and a broad range of operational management appointments inside the Royal Australian Navy including managing major procurement projects ($200m plus) in the roles of Technical Manager and Project Manager. Furthermore, I have run a series of my own private businesses, the most notable being LOGSERV Pty Ltd which at one point had over 150 people providing multi-level consultancy and logistics throughout Defence for over a decade. My last full time appointment within the ADF saw me working in Air Force directing a Defence wide cultural change program centred on enhancing Aviation Safety Management in the aircraft maintenance domain. This was followed by the appointment as Director Aviation Compliance over-seeing safety compliance standards across ADF and Commercial aviation maintenance and engineering organisations. Working at the ADF corporate level through until end of 2015, I 'retired' from full time service in January 2016. Since 'retirement' I have held and continue until official retirement late 2022 to hold the part time Reserve appointment of Chairman of the Royal Australian Navy's Aviation Safety Board. Other Reserve appointments have included the lead on organisation reviews and short term consultancies. In April 2022, I was appointed as a non executive Director of the Toodjay and Northam Branches of the Bendigo Community Bank holding this appointment through until January 2024 when I took a directorship on the Northam Chamber of Commerce. During 2022/2023, I undertook pro-bono management consultancy work with a Tasmanian based, Australian registered, charity, 'Water for a Village', which included an in-field visit to Ethiopia. My current focus has been the re-invigoration of my family company as a precursor to launching another commercial venture. This venture is likely to keep me well entertained although it does not exclude the possibility of other professional appointments as I remain particularly interested in unique leadership and strategic level challenges.
