Provide policy input in queries arising out of processing applications to Adult Disability Payment (ADP) replacing Personal Independence Payment (PIP) (these are known as case discussion), answer questions from members of the public and stakeholders, draft answers to questions from MSPs and MPs on behalf of Ministers, draft briefings for Ministerial debates, events and meetings, and work on new legislation required for delivery of new benefits and amendments to legislation as required.Our policy principles and key commitments – to establish a person-centred social security system rooted in dignity, fairness and respect – will be at the centre of all of this.

The Work Coach role is wide-ranging and diverse. I work with customers, employers and colleagues through a combination of digital, telephone and face to face contacts on a daily basis. Some of the main activities are set out below: • Providing support to Universal Credit, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance & Income Support customers. • Offering quality advice to customers about job search actions, supporting them to job search effectively in a largely digital world. • Building positive relationships with customers that encourages, motivates and builds trust • Developing an in-depth knowledge of local employment opportunities, recognising the roles that our Partners and Employers have in helping our customers secure employment. • Making timely decisions, based on customer needs, and referring them to appropriate help and support

The Schuman traineeships are paid and can be undertaken at one of the European Parliament’s official places of work – Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg – or in its Liaison Offices in the Member States.These traineeships are named after Robert Schuman, one of the main architects of the European integration project, responsible for over 70 years of peace and prosperity in Europe. He proposed pooling French and German coal and steel production into what would become the European Coal and Steel Community, the first of the European Communities, which grew to become the European UnionThe traineeship enhanced my education and vocational training. It provided me with an insight into the work of the EU institutions and the European Parliament, a crucial forum for decision-making and political debate at EU level.

I was placed within Commercial Directorate with the Department for Work and Pensions. Commercial Directorate is responsible for the procurement of services for DWP. I was working with the Employment category responsible for procuring services that were in line with the governments welfare to work agenda. Primarily I was involved in ad hoc procurement which was responsible for procured services requested by Job Centre Plus using the Flexible Support Fund. I was grateful for a the opportunity to spend a day on the front line observing JCP advisors assist JSA claimants get back into work. I also got the opportunity to be involved in a Contract Performance Review and Contract negotiation purely from an observers point of view. During my internship I was seconded to the Scottish Government where I got to be involved in the Bill process and also visited the Scottish Parliament with Finance officials for the Scottish Finance Secretary. During my final week I was very fortunate to shadow the Head of the Employment Category within Commercial Directorate in London Caxton House (DWP Headquarters) which allowed me to see 5 weeks of Welfare to Work knowledge which I was working on at a senior level.
