Project Engineer working in the Structures/ Marine Team on the Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade Project in Brisbane. The project is a circa $450m upgrade of the road which involves widening it over the Brisbane River and the construction of a 9m wide pedestrian and bikeway cantilever slab. I am involved in a range of works including the backing slab, retaining wall, piling and cantilever slab.

Site Engineer working on the Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads (WC2NH) Pacific Highway upgrade project valued at circa $1bn on the structures team for the Acciona - Ferovial JV (Pacifico.) Responsible for 6 bridges (overpasses and main alignment) and 1 cut and cover tunnel. Heavily involved with subcontractor management where I played a key role with planning, supervision and quality and safety mangement. Procurement, cost control and scheduling materials also formed part of my key duties.

Auckland, New Zealand

Worked as a site engineer managing a zone for a highway construction project with a graduate engineer direct report. Was responsible for all earthworks and structures for Fletcher personnel and managing subcontractors for pavement and other specialized jobs such as lighting, barriers, subsoils, drainage and MSE walls. My zone involved many small areas of work and traffic switches/ staging and hence required detailed planning to minimize impacts on the public network and other subcontractors. Due to this a large number of design and programme changes have been investigated. The project also has some very challenging sensitive ground conditions and a high water table which have led to some alternative construction and design solutions - valuable lessons learnt. I was responsible for two weekly programming as well contributing to long term programming, Within my zone I also carried out all quality assurance, progress monitoring, procurement, supervision and safety and environmental management, etc.

Australia

Worked on the Berth 4 Wharf Upgrade Project (Adelaide) and the Ferry Terminals Flood Repair Project (Brisbane) as a project engineer. The Berth 4 Project involved the upgrade of an existing timber wharf to a more substantial concrete and steel pile one. The Ferry Terminals Project required the demolition of existing Terminals and then the associated piling, concrete and other works from a large barge with a 250t crawler crane. Both projects required planning works within or immediately adjacent to operational facilities and the public so needed detailed planning to ensure minimal or no impact on these areas. I was responsible for project management, daily and three weekly programming/ scheduling, quality assurance, progress claims, weekly client meetings, safety and environmental management and personnel supervision, etc.

Worked on six different shipping wharf and bridge construction projects including; the Berth 4 Wharf Upgrade Project (Adelaide), Caltex Jetty (Brisbane), QCLNG Jetty (Gladstone), APLNG Jetty (Gladstone), Gold Coast Rail Bridge Project (Gold Coast) and the One-Steel Port Upgrade (Whyalla, SA). These projects were mostly within a FIFO capacity. I was involved in concrete works, prefabricated steel and structure installation, services installation, earthworks, project management, daily and three weekly programming and scheduling, procurement, quality assurance, personnel supervision (supervisor for up to a week at a time), surveying, safety and environmental control and client liaison, amongst other things.

I was employed first for 6 months as Student Engineer, then 1.5 years as a site engineer on the Wharf 11 and 12 construction projects at the Port of Brisbane. Within these roles I undertook concrete works (reinforcement, formwork, etc) quality assurance works, material quantity calculations and ordering, piling works, concrete pours, quality checks and monitoring, and safety and environmental management. I worked on average 3.5 days per week during this two year period.
