About Daniel Roebuck

I am a cyber security professional with a people-first focus and strong technical skills. I transitioned in 2022 from a 12-year career as a communications engineer to cyber security. I am currently studying a Master of Cyber Security where I am performing very strongly. I am maintaining the maximum GPA of 7 and I have been invited to (and joined) the Golden Key Honour Society for consistent high performance.I’m currently looking for an offensive security role with the long term strategy of developing from penetration tester to security researcher. My team is my priority and by enabling and supporting them, my team achieves strong business and client outcomes. What is our development plan for each member of the team? What are the strategic plans for the team itself? Who are the key stakeholders and what are the key relationships? These are questions I will ask and answer within my team.If a position requires strong technical skill, I will excel at it. Say to me, “Hey Dan, I’ve got a tricky one here” and you will have my full attention.Skills I bring to my employer include mentoring and training; conflict resolution; scheduling; client relationship management, project management, complex problem solving, systems integration, programming, QA/QC and technical support.I’m looking for the right organisation to continue my personal and professional growth with. If you believe that hiring quality people and investing in our team is the path to business and financial success then you are the right organisation and I’m looking forward to working with you.

  • Fe Sports
    Operations And It
Fe Sports Jun 2022 - Present
    Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
At FE, I took over from an IT team of one. Most my initiatives were focused on reducing the technical debt that had accumulated over many years.Initiatives I took to resolve these issues include:Coordinating staff– I began regular department meetings and built relationships with other department stakeholders, which has improved staff attitudes and communication towards IT from oppositional to friendly. Server Upgrades & Installation – I coordinated with staff and SMEs to upgrade the organisation’s webserver (nginx, apache2) and software development environment. Blocking Office Macros – After consultation with stakeholders, I closed this security hole. This applied one of the Essential Eight security principles to FE, significantly improving our security posture for minimal cost.Upgrading staff from POP3 mailboxes to 365 –This improved spam filtering, provided email backup and allowed staff to access emails on their mobile devices and more easily work remotely.Support Helpdesk Project – The new Helpdesk was delivered in 2023 and has been agreed by staff to be a significant improvement over the old system. This has allowed FE to rationalise its staff count in the customer service department.Documentation/Internal Wiki –I spent significant time documenting the current physical and logical systems, networking, procedures (creating from whole cloth where necessary) and knowledge base. This is now the core of FE IT’s Confluence knowledge base.Ubiquiti Network Architecture – I designed, purchased, configured and commissioned an Ethernet and Wifi network for a new premises using Ubiquiti routers, switches and wifi APs.
  • Cluey Learning
    Senior Maths & Physics Tutor
Cluey Learning May 2022 - Present
    Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
One on one tutoring in Physics, Maths and Mathematical Methods for grades 10, 11 and 12.I provide my students an encouraging and fun learning environment where they can track their progress and learning goals session by session. Students drive their learning by identifying learning gaps or challenging areas and we progress at each student's pace.I specialise in identifying knowledge or confidence gaps preventing successful integration of new material - for example, if a student is having difficulty with trigonometry, we may identify that they understand trigonometric identities but find applying these using algebra difficult. We will focus on algebra as the learning gap and in doing so address two learning opportunities simultaneously.
  • Aquamonix
    Senior Engineer
    Aquamonix Oct 2021 - Mar 2022
    Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
In my role as Senior Engineer, I performed a dual role - as an engineer and project manager in my own right, as well as a technical resource to our project management team and client/field technical support as necessary.I primarily designed, integrated and supported roadside flood warning systems warning motorists of flooded roads. Typically, this means a system with three parts - 1. A control station with cellular uplink to the cloud, which monitors water levels controls the entire system via radio.2. Messaging stations with LED signs and flashing lights for alerting motorists of flooded roads.3. A cloud solution for real-time monitoring and control.A full system typically incorporates integrated variable message signs, flashing lanterns, electronic water level measurement, on-site data collection, radio communications between sites and cellular uplinks to cloud platforms. Cloud functionality allows clients to monitor their systems in real time and affect change (activate warnings) at will.My responsibilities included project management, system design, creating wiring schematics, programming, technical support (internal and external), electrical troubleshooting, factory acceptance testing, leading junior engineers and IT support.
  • Australian Radio Towers
    Electrical Lead
Australian Radio Towers Dec 2020 - Mar 2021
    Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia
I sought out this role to develop my emotional intelligence and management skills in a forward-thinking environment. ART was chosen due to it being considerably out of my comfort zone (working with tradesmen and apprentices as opposed to engineers and scientists in my previous role and university) and due to the company’s recent embrace of Semco management style. Semco promotes a flatter management structure by empowering workers to make business decisions and removing unnecessary bureaucracy and middle management. In the Semco style, titles such as Manager are not recommended - Lead is preferred. Nomenclature aside, this was primarily a management role.My priorities in this role included managing a team of electrical apprentices; rolling out Semco style changes, pilots and experiments in my team; coordinating with management at my level and upper levels and coordinating with project managers to ensure project delivery and client outcomes.Duties included scheduling, hiring, resource management, electrical project delivery, procurement, implementation and improvement of procedures, QA/QC, data logger programming, client and project manager support, data analysis, escalated technical support and conflict resolution.Alongside the human-centric matters, I was also responsible for technical and practical delivery of our department’s wind systems including programing (CRBasic); coordinating technical support and handling escalations; QA/QC of wind system builds including physical build, electrical pin out, instrument allocation and testing, data analysis and validation, pre-packing confirmation and remote commissioning with support as necessary.Australian Radio Towers is an industry-leading provider of end-to-end environmental monitoring solutions in the renewable energy market. Before a wind farm can be built, someone has to find and quantify what sites would make a good (read:profitable) wind farm. This is called wind prospecting and is ART's core business.
