The Darfur region of Sudan is one of his specializations. In addition to his numerous publications scholarly journals and volume, he has recently published the following books:Identity, Morality, and Threat: Studies in Violent ConflictWhy They Die: Civilian Devastation in Violent ConflictCivilians and Modern War: Armed Conflict and the Ideology of ViolenceViolent Conflict and Peacebuilding: The Continuing Crisis in DarfurHe currently serves as editor of the book series“Ethics, Conflict and War” for Routledge Press.Research:In his current research for a book-length project, Professor Rothbart examines the normative aspects of conflict, focusing on how conflict parties struggle in the face of adversity, danger and threat, and how their actions are charged with moralistic meaning in terms of what is right and wrong, good and bad, virtuous and vicious. His research reveals that the stories that parties tell and retell often reveal moralistic judgments about their adversaries, their sense of self, and the ‘necessity’ for violence or peace.
