The library world is a growing and changing place. Through conferences and my FEMA training for Public Administration, there has never been a time more critical for libraries to reshape, re-invigorate, and re-establish their role in the community. At a conference, I heard a president of a Texas grocery chain state they changed their materials from an 8th-grade reading level down to a 5th-grade reading level. In FEMA training about communication, the lesson required all materials need to be written at a 5th-grade level or lower. It is why my philosophy about libraries has been shaped to believe they are the living room of the community. Libraries provide opportunities and places to share ideas, investigate information, and become informed. Living rooms fulfill this roll in a house, libraries need to market themselves doing so for the community.I helped oversee the moving of a 6,400 sq ft building into a new 30,000 sq ft. My supervising resposibilities grew from a staff of 6 (including myself) to a staff of 26 (including myself). This project took 5 years after I was promoted to manager. At another location, I developed a plan to operate a 22,000 sq ft library that we being remodeled out of a 1,700 sq ft house for 8 months. After the remodel, the library was 24,000 sq ft. All of this was done in a year and a half on the job. The trifecta is at a third location I had to create a library renaming ceremony within the first three months on the job.Three days on the job I started a test project with an ILS company. The experiment was shortening the ILS conversion process from eight months or more to two to four months. The project finished in just over two.I received FEMA training in 2011 (for work) and 2018 (for my MPA). I certified in ICS-200b in 2011 and re-certified in 2018. I also certified in ICS100b, ICS-700a, ICS-800b as of 2011. I added: IS-120c, IS-240b, IS-241b, IS-242b, IS-244b, IS-403, IS-634, IS-1160 in 2018.I took ICS-300, ICS-400 (both will require in class training) and IS-701a, IS-704 (both have been retired by FEMA). I own the materials but cannot find my personal certificates from 2011.
