Tunnel Lead

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Lead Tunnel Engineer for the KVMRT Line 2. The new metro will be +12km long, twin tubes and will have ten underground stations. Tunnelling will be through various ground formation, ranging from alluvium and residual soils to hard rocks such as granite and limestone. The latter is karstic and the risks of sink holes and blowouts when tunnelling are high. To counter this, variable density (VD) slurry TBM's will be used, which is a new technology that was used for the first time on Line 1.

Jun 2015 - May 2016

Senior Resident Engineer

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Senior Resident Engineer on KVMRT Line 1. This project consists of +9km of twin tubes tunnels with seven underground stations. The route traverses ground that consists of soft soils and hard rocks, including KL Karstic Limestone. To reduce the risks to tunnelling in that material new technology in the form of variable density (VD) slurry TBM's were employed. All tunnelling works were completed in April 2015 ahead of programme without any major incident or time lost.
