Continuing my work on the application of rule-based systems to automatic design tradespace exploration, I developed a second expert system, this time devoted to the architecture of NASA's space communication and navigation program.

I was a PhD student in Professor Crawley's Space Systems Architecture group, within the MIT Aeronautics and Astronautics department. For my thesis I explored the utilization of rule-based systems from artificial intelligence to enhance software tools for high-level system design and architecture. In particular, I developed an expert system to architect Earth Observation missions and programs. I applied the tool to several European and American Earth Observation programs including the NASA Earth Observing System, the NRC Decadal Survey, ESA's Envisat, EUMETSAT's Post EPS, and Iridium-APL's GEOScan program.

Intern in the Future Missions division of the Earth Observation directorate. Analytical study of major architectural trade-offs of Earth Observation missions: large missions versus small missions, standard bus versus dedicated bus, multi-instrument platforms versus single instrument.

During these 4 years in Europe's Spaceport in Kourou (French Guiana), I was in charge of operations concerning the GN&C and OBDH subsystems of the Ariane 5 Launch vehicle from vehicle integration to the final countdown, and later also of operations concerning ground facilities.
