OwnerAlta Productions Sep 2005 - PresentSan Francisco Bay AreaAfter nearly a decade in the industry, I purchased a JVC GY-HD100 camera and a PowerMac computer with Final Cut Pro 5. I learned the dynamics of FCP and quickly began creating: Marketing Videos, Sports Videos, Health Videos, Music Videos, Youth Videos and many more. With a computer sales background, I knew it was only a matter of time before videos on the Internet would become not only affordable but in high demand. So in 2008, I began freelancing for a number of production houses from coast to coast. [see SmartShoot, GeoBeats & Knowlera Media] Currently, I provide video support to many departments within Stanford University including Management Science & Engineering and Buddhist Studies. While continuing to freelance in the corporate world of Silicon Valley, I also get to be part of wonderful celebrations like the 90th birthday of a friend last year. (Way to go Jim!)

Audio Parab/ UtilitySammco (Bafa/Ia 119 & Iatse) Aug 2017 - PresentSan Francisco Bay AreaProvided Utility work for both TNT and NBATV during the 2018 NBA Finals at Oracle Arena from the first round until the Finals. Worked the sidelines at Levi's Stadium 2017 NFL Preseason for the San Francisco 49ers broadcast as a Utility and the San Diego Chargers broadcast as an Audio Parab, respectively. I originally worked with broadcast trucks back in 2000-2003 when I was Utility for the Golden State Warriors broadcast at Oracle and my initial introduction to working in the San Jose Arena as Utility with the Sharks and Parab for the Sabercats. I also roamed the college sidelines of Cal Berkeley and Stanford on separate occasions. Other Utility work included Indy Car racing in Sonoma and Bull Riding back at SAP Center in San Jose.

As an interested party, I prompted the interviewer ahead of time to ask how a curious videographer might go about joining TurnHere’s (now SmartShoot) pool of qualified “Digital Filmmakers” and the rest, as they say, is history. I was soon honored as a “Preferred Filmmaker” and I have created over a thousand web videos for small to medium sized businesses. These minute long spots were then featured on websites such as CitySearch.com, AT&T Yellowpages.com and Yelp.com. -

It turned out that both venues used the Yamaha DM 2000 mixer while some of the smaller rooms at Cisco used the DM 1000 mixer. I was also trained on the Cisco WebEx System and was WebEx Facilitator during vendor training sessions.

I have provided camera work with a jib, slider and studio set-up for numerous productions. Employee Of The Year 2016-2017 (Technical Services)Sap Center May 2015 - Nov 2017San Francisco Bay AreaAlthough the Sharks did not make it back for a Finals rematch with the Pens, there were still accolades to be won by the franchise: "2017 Golden Matrix Award" for the Best Overall Video Display in the sport of hockey by IDEA (the premier association for Game Presentation) and the "Best Fan Experience in Bay Area Sports in 2017" by JD Powers & Assoc. For my efforts in these endeavors, I was honored as the employee of the year in my department. Along with the roles of Technical Director, Audio, Camera, Utility, Lighting and Field Production that I filled last season for the Sharks, I took on the challenges of learning the basic infrastructure of our responsibilities in the arena and documenting them while also training new employees as they joined our team.

Digital FilmmakerGeobeats Jun 2008 - Feb 2012San Francisco Bay AreaGeoBeats (based out of Rockville, MD) was the first internet company where I began creating web videos. It was almost identical in style to the SmartShoot model. I would spend a few hours in a restaurant, dentist office or repair shop and collect b-roll with an interview: I would operate my camera on a tripod with an ENG microphone on my subject and prompt them through a series of questions. I found that I was quite a wordsmith and focused on a strong introduction and a strong closing line. I learned the delicate balance required to coach each individual while keeping them relaxed and comfortable. After collecting my footage, I would develop a narrative, illustrate it with b-roll and add music underneath for continuity. The turnaround for a 60 second commercial video was 48 hours. -

As with all of my web video companies, I was required to keep track of appearance releases, location releases and correct spellings for graphics. I created videos ranging from “DIY Drywall” to “DIY Home Staging & Decorating”. The highlight came in 2009 when I created an instructional Pilates video with Tanya Merryman (1998 ESPN Fitness America National Champion). This video was picked up by the NBC station in Washington, DC and featured as a news segment.

Edited: segments for daily racing recap show on local broadcast (KTSF), 30-second spots and archive footage. Operated every camera for thoroughbred races from a remote handheld at the starting gate to the long-lens pan camera on the roof and studio work. Also worked in control room with graphics, sound and directing. Used digital interface to control race replays for stewards and recording race archives.
