Structural Engineer
At Strand, I am a Structural Design engineer consultant for INDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation) and Indiana county bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects. I have had my hands involved in the design of 10+ bridge replacements and 15+ bridge rehabilitations of which include analysis of prestressed concrete beam, cast-in-place slabs, precast arch and box structures and steel rolled beams. Additionally, I have written 20+ structure scoping reports for INDOT providing preliminary structure sizing and cost analysis documentation to ensure that the state is given most cost-effective solution for longevity. In addition, I have extensive experience in the design of roadway corridors alongside our bridge analyses. Every structure requires thorough analysis of the existing traffic and corridor safety conditions to ensure that the rehabilitated or replacement structure continues to provide safe passage for travelers. We ensure that the existing roadway meets the current roadway safety standards, update the roadway geometry in the case that existing does not meet the criteria, and ensure that the roadway transitions smoothly to the new proposed design.The varying topographic conditions across the state provide unique challenges alongside every roadway corridor. Some restrictive clearances between tall slopes from the edge of pavement shoulder to right-of-way had to be mitigated through the construction of retaining walls. I have had the pleasure of designing concrete cantilever, mass gravity gabion, and MSE (mechanically stabilized earth) retaining walls to withstand repeated roadway travel, natural earth settlement, and hydraulic flow pressures.
Structural Engineer
At Complete Structural Consulting, Inc. (CSC), I was a design engineer intern corresponding with my senior engineers to produce steel structure designs that met the clients' design expectations. The majority of our consulting work consisted of analyzing structure stability of architectural designs, thus exposing me to drastically different projects through my short time at the company.• Liberty, MI Assisted Living Center/Hospital: Designed drilled-pile foundation with the given design loads provided by the geotechnical consultant. • Canal Park, FL Office Garage: Designed post-tensioned barrier cables to withstand potential vehicular collision based on ASCE design standards, produced AutoCAD drawings for the calculated design, and wrote the design proposal as the deliverable to the client.• Chile, Multi-Story Office: Utilized RAM Structural Systems to model and simulate a 3-story, steel-framed office building in a major earthquake zone. The deliverable provided maximum stresses at theoretical pile locations for preliminary design.• Valencia Steel Staircase: Calculated design strengths at the fixed and sliding connections of interior steel staircases per ASCE design standards. • Winter Park, FL Steel Pergolas: Calculated design strengths at the base connections of steel pergolas located on high-rise balconies. Utilized HILTI Anchor Design to ensure sufficient capacity at bolt connections.
Office/Field Engineer
I worked on the company's ongoing projects at LAX; renovating terminals while keeping continual operation throughout ongoing construction. The internship provided me an in-depth exploration of the Construction Management field with hands-on experience with ongoing projects. I worked the first half of the summer on Hensel's LAX Terminal 3 renovation project as a Project Engineer. Time on the project consisted of:• Analyzing Requests for Information (RFI).• Updating drawings in AutoCAD to reflect alterations in design amidst construction.• Processing and documenting change orders from the subcontractors.• Balancing funding through the construction process.I worked the second-half of the summer on Hensel's LAX Terminal 1 reconstruction project as a Field Engineer.
