Physical Education Trainee Teacher
During the PGCE I have been required to fulfil the role of a teacher, including being part of a tutor team and a tutor while at St. George's. I have taken the role of Year 9 tutor where I believe that developing positive, professional relationships is essential. This has illustrated the importance of the role a teacher has to specific pupils within their tutor through showing support for pupils and using their advanced knowledge of certain pupils (as their tutor) to provide a support strategy for them should they require it. I have also realised that in depth and adaptive planning, drawing on a breadth of subject knowledge while working alongside mentors means I have progressed at a rapid rate during the difficult teaching year of 2020-2021. Additionally, I was responsible for the running of extra-curricular activities for pupils who wished to participate. Fulfilling this role has illustrated the importance of being organised and having high expectations of pupils so that they participate in my lessons with the best effort and engagement possible, and have been praised for the high expectations I have of the pupils and that the pupils are constantly made aware of those expectations. My organisational and communication skills have been furthered through my PGCE placement requiring me to be a strong communicator with my PE colleagues and mentor by communicating ideas to colleagues regarding my teaching. I have also had to be organised in sending lesson plans to my mentor on time and scheduling the necessary meetings regarding my teaching, and pride myself in organisation and planning of paperwork which is an essential role of a teacher. I believe time-management skills are essential in this. Thus, this shows the organisational skills I have developed and how one of the main skills/ abilities I have in my arsenal.
